Safety Measures
Gas cylinders used for cooking and heating in homes pose a danger to the residents. Therefore, we advise caution when using them by following these guidelines:
- Ensure that gas cylinders and their connections are made of steel, yellow brass, or red brass.
- Always store the cylinders in an upright position in a shaded and well-ventilated area outside the house, away from direct sunlight.
- Continuously inspect stoves and ovens, making sure that all gas outlets in burner eyes are clear and the ovens are not blocked.
- Close the gas cylinder valve before going to sleep or leaving the house.
- Keep the gas cylinder away from flammable materials.
What should you do if you smell gas in your house?
- Evacuate all persons from the house until the odor dissipates.
- Disconnect the electrical power from the main source in the house.
- Shut off the leaking gas source.
- Do not ignite any fires, electric lights, or any source of sparks, as they can cause an explosion.
- Open windows and doors to ventilate the area and reduce the gas concentration.
- Promptly repair the leak and replace any damaged parts at the leak site.
How do you detect a gas leak in your home?
- Mix a teaspoon of dishwashing soap with a cup of water, then apply the solution to a sponge and pass it over the pipes, connections, and gas flow regulator. If bubbles appear, it indicates a leak, and you should close the pipe valve and repair the leak immediately.
In case of a small fire caused by a gas leak:
- Close the gas valve if possible, after cooling down the gas cylinder by pouring water over it to avoid burns. If the fire is large and difficult to control, evacuate the house immediately and contact the fire department.
